Almost five years ago, we lost a dear colleague and friend, Phyllis Torda. She was a mentor and inspiration to many at NCQA for her wit, wisdom and experience. She was dedicated to improving the health-care system and her wide-ranging work included efforts to promote the use of electronic health records, patient-reported outcomes in performance measurement, and new methods for physician measurement. Phyllis lived with cancer for several years and she brought the insights from her illness and interactions with the healthcare system to her work.

The fellowship changing other lives.

To honor her legacy, NCQA established a fellowship program to train a new generation of health care quality leaders. The goal is for the fellow to work on critical issues related to health care quality, research and policy. These topics include behavioral health issues, patient-reported outcomes, patient engagement in healthcare, healthcare delivery transformation and measurement for vulnerable and diverse populations.

The ideal candidate embodies the values and passion for healthcare that Phyllis imparted. NCQA is looking for a commitment to healthcare research and policy, and a fit between the fellows’ interests and what NCQA can offer in terms of mentorship and resources. NCQA also wants the fellowship to have the maximum impact on the fellows’ career so that he or she can use the experience earned here as a foundation for future endeavors in improving the quality of health care.

The deadline to apply for this fellowship is quickly approaching. You can help NCQA recruit just the right person for the Torda Fellowship by passing along this blog and the information to your network of friends and colleagues who may be interested.

Get all the details and application requirements here. You’ll want to pass along the details on the special informational webinar, too.

It will be an unforgettable, invaluable experience for just the right person.

Good Luck.
