Advancing Behavioral Health Care at the Health Innovation Summit

September 20, 2024 · Becky Kolinski

Join the behavioral health conversation at NCQA’s Health Innovation Summit, October 31–November 2, in Nashville, Tennessee. Behavioral health is one of four key themes at the summit, and there’s a lot to talk about: improving access, measuring quality, managing the workforce shortage and the unprecedented demand for services.

We’ve lined up a panel of speakers who are working to improve the behavioral health system at all levels. With greater awareness of the relationship between physical health and mental health, innovative organizations are developing new delivery models that can improve outcomes and provide care more efficiently.

“I’m excited to connect with colleagues from across the country to share ideas and best practices,” said Jeni Soucie, Senior Manager, Product Management at NCQA. “Access continues to be a huge challenge in behavioral care, but as we move forward, we also need to ensure that patients receive high-quality, evidence-based care that is tailored to their needs and preferences.”

“Can’t Miss” Key Sessions

Hear from providers, community-based organizations and health plans who share a common goal of improving care delivery and outcomes for behavioral health. Check out these sessions:

Addressing Care Gaps for Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders

Discover a collaboration that embeds community health and peer workers in emergency departments to facilitate interventions for patients with substance use and mental health disorders. This partnership helps connect patients with essential primary and behavioral health care, social supports, housing and transportation before discharge.

Let’s Take Triple Aim at Autism

The autism care system is disconnected from the broader health care system. Average medical expenditures for children with autism and co-occurring conditions are 4–6 times higher than those of comparison groups. Learn how a clinically integrated approach to the care of autistic children and their families facilitates shared care planning and delivery.

Transforming a Behavioral Health Quality Division Using the NCQA Behavioral Health Framework

Carelon Behavioral Health used NCQA’s Behavioral Health Quality Framework and roadmap to improve member support. This session demonstrates the framework in action, and gives real-life examples of the transformation of Carelon’s quality department that resulted in improvement in HEDIS measures and increased employee engagement and satisfaction.

Collaborative Care: A Population Health Solution

Explore Collaborative Care—an evidence-based care model for people with common mental health conditions identified in primary care settings—and how this model can improve access to care. You’ll learn about staffing opportunities, billing, coding and best practices for enhancing revenue.
