CAHPS PCMH Survey Public Comment Now Open
October 27, 2014 · NCQA
NCQA invites the public to comment on proposed changes to the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Survey for NCQA programs, used for evaluating patients’ experience in practices that serve as medical homes. Currently, the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (CAHPS®) PCMH Survey is required for “Distinction” in Patient Experience Reporting. This is an opportunity for consumers, clinicians, purchasers, health plans and other stakeholders to weigh-in on the relevance, scientific soundness and feasibility of the revised survey.
NCQA proposes the use of a shortened version of the current CAHPS PCMH survey in its programs:
- Shorten the adult survey to 26 items (from 52).
- Shorten the child survey to 31 items (from 66).
- Change the wording on two Access items.
An important part of developing and updating measures required by NCQA is the opportunity for the public to review proposed revisions and to offer support as well as to recommend changes or clarifications. NCQA reviews every message received during public comment, synthesizes themes and presents comments to NCQA’s Committee on Performance Measurement and Board of Directors for deliberation. NCQA will also share public comment results and its recommendations with the CAHPS Consortium, the entity responsible for maintaining the CAHPS surveys.
For more information on public comment, visit http://www.ncqa.org or contact NCQA Customer Support at 888-275-7585.
