WASHINGTON, DC—January 26, 2023—The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) today announced the appointment of two esteemed health care leaders to its Board of Directors: Anne Boland Docimo, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Services at UnitedHealthcare, and Jaewon Ryu, MD, JD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Geisinger.

O’Kane. “As physicians and leaders of renowned health care organizations, Dr. Docimo and Dr. Ryu have used data, analytics and new care models to improve population health. Their experience will be invaluable to NCQA as we advance the digital transformation of health care to improve care for all Americans.”
Dr. Anne Boland Docimo has served as a physician leader in the evolving health care marketplace for more than 20 years. As Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare, she is responsible for the clinical, cost and experience outcomes of more than 50 million members in UnitedHealthcare’s Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid health plans.
Prior to joining UnitedHealthcare, Dr. Docimo served as Executive Vice president of Population Health and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer for Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, Chief Medical Officer of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), and senior medical director of UPMC Hospitals. She also worked as a practicing clinician in primary care and emergency medicine in private practice, as a government contractor, in a staff-model HMO and in academic medical centers.
Dr. Jaewon Ryu is President and Chief Executive Officer of Geisinger, where he oversees all aspects of the organization, which includes 10 hospital campuses, a health plan with more than half a million members, a research institute and the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. Dr. Ryu has been with Geisinger since 2016, when he joined as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.
Prior to Geisinger, Dr. Ryu held various leadership roles at Humana, the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System and Kaiser Permanente, where he also practiced as an emergency medicine physician. His public service includes leadership at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and as a White House Fellow at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was also a practicing corporate healthcare attorney with the international firm McDermott, Will & Emery. Dr. Ryu has also served in several advisory roles, including as a member of the independent Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, and board positions with My Health Direct Inc., MCCI, JenCare and the White House Fellows Foundation and Association.
NCQA is governed by an independent Board of Directors composed of 18 members and the NCQA president. The board includes representatives from purchasers, clinicians, public policy experts, consumer groups and health systems, representing a multi-stakeholder perspective for improving health care system quality through delivery system reform and transparency.
